We moved to Missouri this year to homestead. Here, you have to record hours in 5 subjects, including social studies. For SS, I decided to read The Missouri Homestead (little house series), The Missouri Reader (a book about the history, capital, flag, etc of the state), Minn of the Mississippi, a book on Lewis and Clarke. We're also reading 'Among the Farmyard People' for science. Its a book on farm animals. I also found a book called 'The Natural History of the Farm' that talks about how nature intended things to work and how the farmer can work with it. So, that's what we'll be learning. Its relevant and interesting and it can go in so many different directions.

This is a unit study on.... unit studies. ;-)

I recently pulled my kids out of public school and began homeschooling. I have been researching like crazy about different styles and different curriculum. I love the idea of unit studies but I also love the Charlotte Mason style. Did you strictly do unit studies for all your kiddos or did you mix styles and curriculum? Thanks! Your videos have helped me so much in the research that I have been doing.

I love learning all the things I missed when I was in school! I was never interested in history until I started homeschooling. 😁

There is upfront work to unit study! Which keeps me a bit back from using them !

Can the Lesson Books be used with the revised edition (the blue cover)? Also, is the book available on PDF if i choose to just print. I like to keep their work in a folder. I could also just have them write out everything in a composition notebook 😀

I would love for you to look into Generations homeschool by Kevin Swanson and watch some of his interviews if you haven’t. I just found and it almost cried because of how he approached education-God being the frontlet and it looks amazing. He believes in waiting till highschool to introduce Homer and Hawthorne and Shakespeare because of the humanism and kids need their history to be church history and even mentioned how there is Christian content that was taken out of translations of Heidi. So in middle school those books are in there with that content back in. Anyway I love your heart and would love to know what you think. His highschool stuff looks so good. Especially the worldview one where he brings up Darwinism, Marx and Harvard.

Oh, how I wish all of your content could be found in one book! I love to write my inspiration from your podcasts into my common place, so I'm here scrolling through the transcript to do that 😛 I had NO IDEA that I have been rendering more to Caesar than what is due!! I strictly limit formal academics to no more than 3 hours a day specifically to leave room for interest learning and hobbies. Free time is just as important through the high school years as it is in the elementary years. It's something I am very intentional about when choosing and planning curriculum.

Do you have your students use separate notebooks for Notebooking? Say, one for science, one for history, ECT... Or do you just have them put all that they "notebook" into one book as they go?
